A house for a family with two children, a small boat, views of blooming cherry trees and waterfalls from the roof terraces.
The rationally shaped volume of the family house is anchored like a boat in an optimal position in the middle of an orchard, on a plot that utilizes the eastern and western sun and channels views from the interior into the lush vegetation of the land, with high pines in the northern part and fruit trees in the southern part.
The basic volume of the house is located in the 2/3 depth of the plot at the distant end from the street and is further shaped by subtracting (a covered entrance and parents' terrace) and adding mass (roof terrace). This principle achieves an elegant, sculptural shape that is formed according to the needs of its users while remaining essentially close to a simple, energy-efficient, and mass-compact block.
The façade of the house is treated with gray plaster of varying roughness and a metallic finish, which helps to better "sit" the house in the greenery while also softening and lightening its mass. The cut-out niches and borders of the terraces are designed in lighter tones of plaster or wooden cladding, thus helping to brighten the corners of the house. The coarse-grained plaster with metallic paint contrasts with shading elements made of smooth exposed concrete, giving the house a unique changing texture.
The monochromatic color scheme of the house and the relative simplicity of the façades respect the tradition of nearby functionalist villas in Barrandov, while allowing users the freedom to choose and arrange the color scheme of the interior.
The roof downspouts made of exposed concrete drain the flat roofs, and from the interior, the water cascading down the chains creates a lively image of nature. The surfaces of the roof and garden decks are made from thermally modified wood.
The aesthetics and materialization of the roof terrace are designed in the context of the investor's favorite poetic interpretation of a ship's deck. The chimney of the fireplace, shaped to evoke a steamship's chimney, is complemented by a captain's bridge with a steering wheel attached to the terrace railing. The captain of the house has a perfect overview and view of the wide and nearby surroundings from here.
