Family house on Zelený pruh

Family house on Zelený pruh
In our regions, the extraordinary concept of atrium houses is very close to us. The compact atrium, separated from the surroundings by walls, becomes a much better part of the space and life of the house than a classic garden. It simply acts as another room of the apartment. We appreciate the economy and intensity of land use. The Japanese have a long tradition in this, being at the forefront when it comes to thinking about space and detail. We would also look to them for some references. We enjoy simplicity, economical use of materials and details, combined with thoughtful functionality.
The house is neither large nor small. Excellent for two but still good for four. It naturally divides into a living ground floor with a master bedroom, and a basement level with children's rooms. There is a "slight" deserved imbalance in comfort in favor of the ground floor, which we propose to mitigate by connecting the basement to the atrium with external stairs. This is not only functionally advantageous, but the southern light and views into the atrium will bring a new quality down below. Another important improvement is the excavation of the terrain in front of the glass doors of the rooms.
The rooftop "penthouse" will be excellent; it will not only provide a pleasant usable space, but the contribution to the lighting of the staircase, which is currently a dark spot in the house, is important.
The garden should be as measured as the house. It is designed on two levels, connected by a simple wooden step. We only use two materials - wooden decking and Brač marble used for the small pool, the adjacent terrace, and as bulk gravel under the bamboo plantings. The end of the garden is a dense growth of bamboo with a wooden path leading to the gate. Besides that, there are only two selected solitary trees in the garden, and the walls are modestly covered with ivy. On hot days, a thin white board extends over the terrace. The tranquility is complemented by the rustling of the wind and the murmuring of water.
