The reconstruction of the duplex is always a challenge, and in this case, the option to preserve the original proportions of the house won. The brief was to create a family house with three residential units and amenities. In the design, we started from the original structure, just playing with the masses. The final decision was to expand the original mass, which housed the staircase and the entrance to the house. This element became the main expressive feature of the house, even though it is located in the garden and cannot be seen from the street. The entrance staircase to the apartments is situated within the mass. On the ground floor, a covered entrance to the technical facilities has been created, as well as a space for a bicycle storage and an atelier. On the half-floor at street level, there are two 2+kk residential units that have their own private front gardens. In the attic, there is a spacious 3+kk apartment with two bathrooms and a large terrace located on the attached mass of the staircase.
The house is simply treated with white plaster combined with anthracite windows, roof, and details. The mass of the staircase is clad in lacquered perforated sheet metal, which is a material that provides enough coverage while not forming a complete barrier and is essentially transparent.
