Project for the reconstruction of the central part of the block - the so-called triplex - according to the design by architect Kolář from 1928 in the locality of Prague's Hanspaulka. The house was designed and built as a residential building with 4 housing units and 1 shop on the ground floor. The division of the entire block into an entrance service tract along the street and a residential tract facing the gardens is reflected in the appearance of the facades, which paradoxically seem inferior towards the street.
The integrity of the block has been significantly disrupted in the past by the replacement of windows and their formats, the diverse colorfulness, and the morphology of elements in the original hipped roof.
The task for the reconstruction was to transform it into a multi-generational family house while preserving as many original elements as possible, maximizing the connection of living spaces with the garden, and achieving overall illumination of the interior. Above the partially recessed service basement, an open living space was created, with a bedroom on the floor and an atelier in the attic.
The openings on the garden facade, the roof dormer, and the stairs to the garden are designed with consideration for the axial composition of the entire triplex while maintaining a logical connection to changes in the layouts of the individual floors. The windows are in their original positions, only extended by removed sills. The enlargement of the window from the kitchen to the street corresponds to the location of the original shop's display window in these places. The elongated shape of the roof dormer reflects the solutions of the neighboring houses.
The functional and material solution corresponds to the desire for timeless quality without unnecessary ostentation. It is intended to appear naturally and appropriately for living in Hanspaulka at first glance.
