Reconstruction of two floors of the historical building of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering builds on our previous realizations in the area of the Czech Technical University in Prague at Karlovo náměstí. In the affected second and third floors, there are large lecture halls predominantly situated along the street facades. These were in poor technical condition, not only in terms of their equipment but also the quality of the materials used.
A very important aspect of our work was to disturb the character and historical decoration of the individual rooms of the monument-protected building as little as possible. Therefore, we inserted new elements into the building as independently as possible from the original reconstructed structures. The solution also included equipping all lecture halls with a modern air conditioning system, acoustics, and audiovisual technology. The majority of this technology is concealed within suspended acoustic ceilings, recessed from the walls.
All fixed and movable furniture in the rooms is new. The exception is a pair of lecture halls where historical folding benches with worktops were used, selected from preserved pieces and refurbished to their original form.
