Renovation of the Světozor cinema, the center for club viewers and independent festivals? For an architect, a film lover, a big challenge. The desire to not design and to have fun while fulfilling the assignment. To elevate the level of the cinema and open the space to broader groups of the public, to spark their curiosity and imagination. The design was experimental, the construction improvised (smaller budget than anticipated at the start of the project). All of this under the watchful eyes of friendly investors.
The cinema spaces have been cleansed of the layers of the past while preserving the original authentic elements (showcases, flooring, etc.). The interiors are black and white complemented with colorful film scenes. By entering these film spaces, the visitor becomes part of the shot, the play. When does the hero of the film enter and who am I? Where am I and how does time flow? This play takes place both in the cinema foyer (black) and in the restrooms (white). The bar is white, simple, illuminated by film titles from one scene. The large hall is black and soft (textile) with a red logo of the cinema pixelated into the seats.
The lack of funding mainly affected the materials, the quality of construction work, details, and the cancellation of film scene accessories. The proposed floor made of ceramic mosaics, again featuring the logo of the Světozor cinema, is missing at the ticket office and entrance (see visualizations).
Note: The film scenes of S. Kubrick are worth studying.
