The interior transformation of the Czech Radio Vltava broadcasting studio was prompted by the desire to refresh the overall visual appearance, making it look good on the planned camera shots from the studio.
The studio is part of the radio complex on Římská Street in Prague's Vinohrady, which was built between 1998 and 2000 according to the design of the architectural studio A.D.N.S. Since then, it has not undergone any major construction alterations.
The goal of the interior transformation was to create an adequate background for radio interviews and transmitted concerts with good acoustics in the space. The initial concept of a neutral and rather intimate environment was soon expanded upon with the idea of easily transforming the studio's atmosphere to correspond with the moods of individual programs. In the age of advancing digitalization, the idea of a light wall made of LED strips emerged, for which many light patterns can be programmed—static or dynamic, single or multi-colored, with inscriptions and other arbitrary graphics. This solution allows for future development according to the studio's current needs.
Without the activation of the light wall, the interior is tuned to a neutral dark gray color scheme. The studio is lined with wooden perforated plywood panels stained light gray. The carved simple repeating geometric pattern allows the panels to connect almost seamlessly. Behind the wooden panels, there is a black mesh covering various acoustic wall panels, essential for the proper functioning of the recording studio. The cladding ends at the floor and ceiling with a negative joint detail. A new black carpet is laid on the floor. The design also included a new broadcasting discussion table. The two-level top in the shape of a regular pentagon is made of black-stained plywood with a recessed soft strip of black natural linoleum for shock absorption. The uniquely shaped base serves as a housing for connecting and distributing cables for all necessary equipment. The studio was equipped around the perimeter with a console under the ceiling for the placement of spotlights, speakers, and cameras.
