Swinging,
golden-yellow arm of joy
pulls passersby
down
to the dark deck
of the underground hall with a white cap,
beneath which float
the antlers of Sudeten deer,
and soft clouds of lanterns. In determining the concept of the new interior for the Town Hall Cellar restaurant, we addressed several interconnected spatial groups. The entrance to this widely frequented establishment, including its outdoor surroundings, staircase corridor, and cloakroom foyer; the vaulted hall with both lounges (the Mayor's and Parliament); the bar with a cooling box for beer tanks; and restroom facilities for guests.
With humility towards her age, we’ve knitted a yellow scarf for the old lady of Liberec, which we want to use to entice people to come down here right from the entrance. After ten years of silence, they can experience the original magnificent hall designed (in 1888) by Franz von Neumann in today's interpretation. The yellow ribbon running down the staircase and through the cloakroom tells the story of the Svijany Brewery and also offers guests participation in the daily exhibition of their experiences on a pinned beerbook.
The temple layout of the hall with side lounges is dominated by a radiant long bar and the steel structure of the cooling box housing four Svijany tanks. Above two standing tables, a halo emerges from the antlers of Novobor deer.
The observer's horizon intersects the hall with a thin membrane. Beneath it rises the black-brown wooden cliffs like a wide bathtub of dark oak. Lights float on the surface. Glass buoys, anchored on strings at the peaks of the white Renaissance vaults. Both older and new red tables and benches converse in the company of aged chairs, sipping light from their own lamps.
