Reconstruction of the Parish Barn in Prague-HostivařThe barn is part of the parish complex near the Church of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist in Prague-Hostivař. This valuable area, part of which is a cultural monument, is located in the center of the original historical village. The urban structure and the scale of the buildings are preserved in their authentic form.
Originally a Classicist farm building with a gabled roof, it dates back to the early 19th century. In 1876, it was struck by a fire and in the 1970s, it was converted into an auto workshop.
The main value in the form of the volume and outline of the house has been largely preserved. The design responds to the investor's request to create a space for community and public gatherings.
The main entrance and a large glazed portal complete the primary axis of the complex.
The originally three-wing layout has been opened up for new uses. On the ground floor of the barn, there is a social hall and an entrance lobby, around which are connected service spaces. The dividing walls are replaced by the mass of a staircase with translucent cladding. The vertical volume serves to connect the floors and simultaneously separates the hall from the lobby.
In the attic of the house, simple accommodation is created in the form of three apartments with facilities. This is supplemented by the office of the complex manager. The attic layout is served by a longitudinal corridor. Access is provided by a newly built external staircase adjacent to the gable wall of the barn. In the imaginary center of the floor, there is an elevated space with a gallery and a kitchen.
During the reconstruction of the house, unsuitable building layers were replaced. The materials used for the restoration of the building connect in their character and craftsmanship to the period of its creation. The main feature of the interior of the house is wood. Steel structures in a muted white color along with new plaster on the original walls bring a contemporary layer to the building.
The contrast between the old and the new emphasizes the evident qualities of the historical house, acknowledges the interventions, and reflects the current architectural style.
