The Brno swimming stadium Lužánky has undergone a significant expansion and modernization. Next to the existing 50-meter pool, a new hall with a 25-meter warm-up pool and a 16-meter teaching pool has been created. Thanks to the connection of both parts, professional athletes, schools, clubs, and the general public will all benefit. The modern complex also provides the city with the opportunity to host domestic and international competitions, thereby continuing the rich sporting history of Lužánky.

The history of the original building dates back to the 1970s when the stadium was designed by architect Otakara Oplatka. The characteristic features of the building include the exposed truss roof structure by Ferdinand Lederer, the slanted facade mirroring the stands, and the cantilevered terrace, which today also serves as barrier-free access.

The expansion of the stadium respects the original architectural solution, with new elements entering into a dialogue with the existing ones. A striking feature of the architectural design of the new swimming hall is the slanted roof, rising towards the existing building. This continues the slope of the spectator stands, projecting onto the facade of the original building.

The new pool hall is located in relation to the pedestrian bridge connecting the terrace level and the main entrance. Its facades, made of a combination of glass, metal, and concrete, provide a modern and open appearance. Glazed facades towards the street and the existing building allow passersby and visitors on the stairs to peek directly into the interior of the pool hall. The space thus gains openness and allows for connection with the surroundings.

The operational connection of both parts of the stadium provides visitors with maximum comfort. The new hall has its own changing rooms and sanitary facilities. The main entrance is through the entrance hall of the existing pool, from where visitors can take the stairs or the newly built elevator down to the basement leading to the new hall. For greater comfort for visitors and staff, both pools, 25 m and 50 m, are operationally connected, allowing for seamless transition between them.
