Object – Beach Chair
Architect: Miloslav Fekar
Address: park Kolibki, Gdyně, Poland
Completion:2010
Built Up Area:16 m2
The object - the small building - "Plážovka" was created by Miloslav Fekar and is permanently located near the sea in the picturesque Kolibki park, Gdynia - Poland. The park is situated between the cities of Gdynia and Sopot. There is approximately a 50-meter-wide strip of forest separating the object from the sea, which slopes down to the Baltic Sea. The horizon of the sea shines through the trees and can be felt in the air.
The dimensions of the object are 230x230x690 cm and it is made of planed spruce planks. Geometrically, it consists of three connected cubes formed into a block, which is horizontally pierced by a cone. Inside, three spaces are created, which become increasingly enclosed. The object is a continuation of the "art project - Small Buildings". This project focuses thematically on the question of habitability. It serves as a meditation on matter and light.
This object was preceded by the creation of a half-size model of three colored cubes. The model is sized for children. In these cubes made of colorful washable canvas measuring 130 cm, there are small holes on the sides and a gradually narrowing front view. And it is the sunlight that makes the essential and interesting aspect when you move in this object. By combining circular openings, colors, and shadows, a sort of image is created, of which you can be a part, you just have to step inside.
The object for Polish Gdynia is based on the poetics of light and grid. Its simple shape is carefully incorporated into the environment of the park that divides the city and the sea. Artificial light in the evening gives the object a different dimension.
The object was created at the end of May 2010 with the support of the foundation - Fundacja Kultury Liberty in Poland. The godmother of the object is Agnieszka Grochowska.
