THEME: RASTER as WORD, LETTER - dot, comma, spaceA uniform furniture design was proposed for the forest park, centered around the relationship between matter and words. At various gathering spots - benches, a gazebo, piers, playgrounds - there are encrypted messages for visitors to the park. The cipher refers to the relationships and communication among people, to the form through which we globally attempt to communicate. Morse code is used for its simplicity to express words, represented by a combination of square, rectangular, and colorful prisms arranged in a grid. The communication medium – Morse code – can be seen as a precursor to today’s computer languages. Internet programming languages are like complex ciphers of today's age, where users only see the result - an image.
The park is designed as a space where messages can be revealed. Their form, encrypted in Morse code, thematically focuses on our imperfect relationship with nature, highlighting our haste and our bizarre priorities. They are brief, general texts urging contemplation - sometimes even one-word tangible poems.
In the playground area with a long bench, visitors can write messages to each other. The entire park is focused on communication, not only in terms of perceiving and uncovering texts but also on communication between people – children and parents or grandparents, teachers and students, friends, etc. Individual elements function independently of this game as well. This game serves as a significant overlay that allows for a deeper understanding of the park's space. The game itself encourages spending time in nature while searching for and finding oneself.
Objects in the forest park:GAZEBO is a longitudinally oriented wood-steel structure that stands out against the foreground of vegetation. It consists of three cubes connected into one unit, with the middle section directed outwards through an opening for seating, while benches in the outer fields are oriented towards the space inside the gazebo. Throughout the entire object, in a vertical raster, there are inscriptions, with spaces between words separated, making the grid fragmented and partially visually permeable. The raster is also present on the floor, roof, and benches aside from the gazebo’s cladding. The inscriptions encourage calmness and contemplation over haste. A single artificially planted tree grows through the gazebo, connecting it with the surrounding nature.
SPIRAL thematically relates to play and the search for the center of a circle. The open spiral raised up references the relationship between heaven and earth – seeking a place in the world. Seeking a home and one’s essence. The raster contains an encoded inscription.
TERRACES AND PIERS are areas for longer inscriptions. The texts on the main surfaces thematically combine with the inscriptions on benches and railings at these locations. The remaining sections without texts are filled with oak floorboards.
BENCHES WITH MORSE CODE in one of the playgrounds provide instructions for reading the alphabet and an encrypted message inviting everyone to try creating words on the sandy surface of the playground, leaving messages for others and thus searching for the basis of communication.
Other elements with encrypted messages include
BENCHES, A STAGE, INFORMATION BOARDS, BINS, PICNIC SETS and
BRIDGES.
The idea of using Morse code for the Žižkův vrch Forest Park and its realization was brought forth by MgA. Miloslav Fekar, who was invited to collaborate by the project developer Ing. Roman Balatka Maršík.
