The reconstructed building served at the time of its inception as one of the entrance structures of the national enterprise Transporta Chrudim, a significant heavy engineering company primarily manufacturing elevators and escalators. The building also housed the company’s People's Militia.
The aim of the reconstruction was to transform the originally office layout of the two-story dilapidated structure into a building for commercial purposes.
The internal areas of the building were reconstructed into rental spaces without specific designation. The authors anticipated the formation of a store selling small machinery and gardening equipment based on the available information.
The internal load-bearing structures of the building were completely replaced. New ceilings, pillars, staircases, and the elevator shaft were made of exposed reinforced concrete.
The outer load-bearing walls were preserved, and the placement of new window openings partially reflects the original facade layout, although some windows are entirely newly placed.
A new covered entrance with a staircase to the hall and also a small kiosk is designed from the direction of Čáslavská Street.
The dominant feature in the interior spaces is the two-story hall with an inserted elevator shaft and a massive concrete staircase.
The hall is illuminated by upper northern lighting through windows on the second floor.
The southern and eastern facades of the building, in addition to the grid of large black window areas, are also divided by a silver decor on a gray background that significantly changes color and shine depending on the observer's angle and the angle of sunlight.
Thus, the facade of the building is always in motion, changing with the time of day and the cloud cover.
The decor on the facade was realized in collaboration with designer Tereza Šmahová from the studio Moot.
The interior of the building is realized from reinforced concrete structures, which are complemented by concrete floors, white plaster, air conditioning systems, and black metal elements.
The resulting austere expression was intended to be a neutral background for the user layer of a specific tenant.
The building was ultimately leased to a Vietnamese trader with a variety of goods.
The original layer of the building combined with the enveloping layer of colorful goods creates an often surprising surreal clash of two completely different aesthetics.
