The dilapidated cinema building was in a condition requiring a complete structural renovation and technical equipment. Additionally, it did not allow for multifunctional use for the needs of the school and municipal associations. The entrance was not wheelchair accessible. The rear part of the cinema building created a blind façade with the projection booth annex. The mass did not communicate with its surroundings and created a "dead space" in the area between the cinema, brewery, and school with a multifunctional sports field, which everyone just passed through. From the perspective of considering the key point of the design concept, the crucial balance was between what already exists on the site and what is newly inserted.
Design
The basic leitmotif of the design was to reverse the sense of the entrance into the building (the original entrance from Španovského street would now only be used as a technical entrance and emergency exit) and the newly designed entrance from the brewery building (from Školská street) would become the main entrance.
The design of the extension of the existing cinema building consists of a dark, striking terraced mass that cascades down the terrain towards Španovského street. The mass of the design "wraps around" the main hall of the building, creating a solid corner against which the hall rests. Thus, the design results in a striking composition of masses in a modern architectural concept. The garden adjacent to the community center is enclosed by a stone gabion wall.
New Layout and Operation of the Building
The design newly addresses comfort for both the audience and performers. The new entrance from above (from Školská street) opens up the foyer space to the incoming individuals, visible from the street through large glass sliding doors. A large French window is proposed on the side of the new foyer to connect the interior with the exterior for possible expansion into the garden (on special occasions). The interior will be visually more spacious due to this large glazed area.
By removing about five rows from the auditorium, the capacity will be reduced from the original 350 seats to the newly designed 218 seats (+ three seats for disabled persons proposed above the last row).
The depth of the stage is expanded by 2.5 m for theater performances. New seats are installed. Modernization of stage and audiovisual technology. New air conditioning system. Resolution of the emergency exit and its alignment with the existing courtyard. A covered ramp for handling stage technology and props is proposed within the courtyard.
According to the design, the new entrance from the street will serve as an emergency exit, the exit through the corridor to the side into the courtyard space, and the original entrance into the building from Španovského street will serve as the third emergency exit.
The original entrance areas (foyer, cloakroom, ticket office, restrooms) will be newly prepared for use by performers. A large foyer for the possibility of rehearsing before the performance.
Additionally, a staircase will be created in the area of the original ticket office as a possible entry (access) point for performers to the stage. This will create two possible access points for performers to the stage (from the side from the corridor and from the back).
