Cafe U Žlabu

Café in Noutonice

Cafe U Žlabu
Northwest of Prague, there are many villages that are gradually starting to come to life.
One of them is Noutonice. The proximity of the Okoř Castle, the romantic landscape, and the accessibility of Prague provide excellent conditions for attracting new residents and tourists to the village. An investor in the area had long missed a place where people could informally sit, enjoy refreshments, and stop for a drink. Today, the café U Žlabu is operated, which is the first swallow of the colorful architectural future of the village.
The adaptation of the historical farm building into a café with a courtyard connects to the adjacent equestrian facility. The main activity takes place behind the gates of the former farm, where a semi-public space fulfills the role of a non-functional village square. The courtyard is defined by granite paving, in whose center an old linden tree is planted, around which the informal life of the café unfolds. All this is set against the backdrop of horse stables, which enhance the atmosphere of the rural estate.
The internal layout has not undergone many changes. A staff facility was added, which did not fit into the existing building. We have cleared the tectonically impressive spaces of the burdens of time. They are slowly returning to life through the gradual inhabitance of the interior by its operator. An important functional element for serving the courtyard was the design of a new serving window opening. At the beginning of construction work, it was discovered that this window had historically existed in the same location. Everything seems to be as it should be.
The enlightened investor further invited us to collaborate on the revitalization of the adjacent equestrian facility and other construction projects. We look forward to their prompt realization.
