The subject of the architectural study was the design of the interior of the workers' house in Albrechtice. The aim was to create a design in harmony with this type of building. The basis was an architectural study for the reconstruction of the workers' house, on which we made several layout changes. The main focus of our work was to design the actual interior furnishings.
We incorporated some elements required by the investor, such as the orange tiles in the hallway. We accepted the suggested color scheme for the hallway, while in other spaces we leaned towards a more subdued color variant. Decorative tiles are used where they create an emphasized anteroom.
The workers' house consists of several operations and rooms, each requiring a slightly different character and functionality. Our biggest goal was to find a way to expressively, materially, and fundamentally connect all these spaces while providing each of them with the desired atmosphere and character. Considering simplicity, variability, and an appropriate character for the perception of smaller scale, we chose wooden vertical slats as a unifying element. We applied it to all three main interior blocks – the bar counter in the restaurant, the coat check counter, and the gallery block in the hallway. We added a cladding to the entire transverse wall in the main hall. We wanted to unify its visual impact – disrupted symmetry caused by the placement of the staircase, the protruding balcony landing, and asymmetry. By applying the cladding, we suppress the perception of these imperfections; the entire wall becomes a figurative backdrop made of slats. A simple rhythm. The work with architectural expression is also evident – in height, intertwining, or omitting some slats.
The material solution for the interior follows the spirit of combining natural materials with subdued colors but also with contrast. The character stands out in small details, such as the flooring, the wooden slat cladding, or the character of the lighting fixtures.
