The aim of the reconstruction of the panel apartment was not only to meet the client’s requirements for modern living but also to demonstrate that even in a panel apartment, one can be surrounded by design and appropriately chosen furniture.
Emphasis was placed on harmonizing the living spaces and maintaining a certain continuity throughout the apartment. Without a doubt, the floor serves as this connecting element. The elimination of thresholds between individual rooms also helps to maintain a smoother transition between spaces. The flooring, except for the bathroom and toilet, is the same in all areas, including the entrance hallway. This makes it part of the living space. Continuity is also aided by the library, which is part of the kitchen on one side and open to the mentioned hallway on the other. Books and decorative items are immediately visible upon entering the apartment, creating a warm sense of home.
All doors, including the entrance ones, were replaced. Their white color was chosen deliberately. Thus, the doors blend more with the walls and do not unnecessarily disrupt the space of the apartment. Sliding doors are installed along the walls leading to the rooms. This allows better utilization of the room space for furniture.
A traditional pitfall of panel apartments is the lack of storage space. In addition to the built-in wardrobe in the hallway, which houses the washing machine, a furniture wall was designed in the bedroom, surrounding the bed on all sides. There is also plenty of storage in the kitchen for all dishes and necessary utensils. Shelves on the sides of the TV cabinet provide storage for DVDs. The already mentioned open library gives the opportunity to enrich the interior with colorful compositions of books and decorative items.
This type of apartment can also offer its residents interesting views. From the bar table, one can enjoy the illuminated covering made of artificial stone, which is above the bed and brings a natural motif into the interior. From the sofa, the wall in the kitchen, where there is a composition of copper pans, is visible.
The bathroom and toilet achieve a modern look thanks to cement plaster and grey tiles that mimic concrete, contrasting with the white sanitary ware.
