Institute and Botanical Garden - CSIC
The Botanical Institute, one of the centers of CSIC, is located at the highest point of the Barcelona Botanical Garden on the slopes of Montjuïc Hill right next to the Olympic complex. The building, which offers a beautiful view of the entire city, hovers above the northwestern part of the garden dedicated to plants of the western Mediterranean and northern Africa. The striking horizontal mass connects to the natural slope of the terrain and acts as a joint between two topographical planes. The horizontality allowed for various programmatic layouts of the individual parts of the building with independent entrances from the road as well as from the network of garden paths.
