GAS Dunajská Streda

The second realization within the collaboration with the Slovak network of gas stations GAS. The first was a unique pump in the village of Matúškovo. In the town of Dunajská Streda, a second, distinct gas station was created, characterized fundamentally by its strictly ascetic and functionalist design with a minimal area and, most importantly, minimal costs, which was one of the main requirements. The dominant element of the entire project is, nonetheless, the generously conceived roof constructed from thin concrete and supported only by slender metal pillars. An elegant curve inspired by modernism, fully acknowledging its raw character and covering the overall space of the gas station, is visually and spatially lightened by glazed round openings. The self-supporting structure entirely lacks gutters, allowing water to naturally run down the surface of the concrete, gradually creating a natural patina on it. The kiosk, made of black standard alucobond panels with surface profiling, is minimized to the smallest area possible and tucked under the slanted concrete roof.
