Gehry created an urban project, the first phase of which was completed in 1986 and the second phase two years later. The program consisted of laboratories, classrooms, an auditorium, and offices, which he arranged around a central courtyard and in relation to the axes of the surrounding campus. The buildings must be demolished not only due to their moral obsolescence but also because the cheap plastered timber constructions (only the auditorium is made of bricks) do not have a long lifespan, and their restoration is not cost-effective for Americans.
