House Inspired by the Forest

The main feature of this single-story house is the elegant arched roof supported by hewn oak trunks. The roof unifies the two sections of the house that open towards the garden. All living rooms are connected to a terrace sunlit throughout the day, ensuring adequate solar gains.
The construction of the house consists of solid wooden DEK panels without adhesives, insulated with wood fiber insulation. The building is mechanically ventilated with heat recovery, and solar thermal collectors are integrated into the system for heating domestic hot water. Very low heat losses are covered by electric radiant panels made of Hořice sandstone.
The house is the winner of the public vote in the category of completed modern wooden buildings in the competition “Wooden Building of the Year 2012”.
