The specific handwriting of the architectural studio BekArch is reflected in an old corner apartment in Prague's Dejvice. The original layout of 4+1 has been transformed into a 4+kk that meets the needs of a modern family. This intervention required extensive structural work, during which the layout underwent significant changes. The architects connected the kitchen into one large living space by combining two separate rooms – the living room with the dining area. This allows the family to spend time together throughout the day. In the place of the original kitchen, a bedroom was created.

"We tuned the apartment to light colors, dominated by a combination of white and gray. This color scheme is complemented by an oak wood decor," describes architect Jan Bek. The architects like to work with light colors and wood. This approach gives them the opportunity to accentuate specific pieces of furniture by using bold or dark colors.

A Touch of Blue
The highlighted interior elements are in a nautical blue. A large sofa thus dominates the living room. In the bathrooms, you will find built-in shelves and custom cabinets made of dark blue lacquered veneer in this color. "I enjoy playing with every detail of the interior," explains Jan Bek and continues: "In interiors, we like cohesive areas, such as walls clad in wood with hidden passages or walk-through cabinets from bathrooms to bedrooms." Part of the layout change included increasing the originally one bathroom to two. Both bathrooms are accessible through carpentry elements, making them hidden from the visitors' view.

The generous living space, technical background, and entry to the bathrooms incorporated into built-in cabinets define the character of the living area of the interior. In contrast, the bedroom feels intimate due to its size. "I prefer smaller bedrooms with enough storage space; small sleeping rooms are, among other things, energy-efficient," explains the architect regarding their size.

At BekArch studio, they enjoy collaborating with Czech manufacturers and carpenters. The dominant lighting fixtures in this interior reflect the history of the space. "We strive to use Czech brands; they have a high standard. Beautiful things are made here, and we like to support Czech design," concludes the architect.
