Drn is a multifunctional building at the corner of Národní and Mikulandská streets in New Town, Prague, designed by architect Stanislav Fiala. On the eighth floor, there are offices for CTP, which underwent significant alterations according to the design by Studio acht and Vos Interieur.
The design of the new interiors for the office spaces, tailored specifically for the company, was created in collaboration between Dutch interior designer Bart Vos and Studio acht, led by architect Václav Hlaváček. In addition to the client's brief, which was to expand the number of employee workspaces, the modifications were inspired by the organic, irregular shape of the building, which they seamlessly connected with. They also correspond to the main features of the original interior, which include ubiquitous exposed concrete, a glass façade creating a clean space connected by an unforgettable view of the center of Prague, and the placement of technical facilities in the middle of the entire area.
The new layout of the floor consists of four main transformations: the rounding of the central space, the modification of layouts, the unification of technical facilities inspired by its egg shape, and a complete solution for interior design, from the selection of furniture to the color coordination of various partitions.
Colorful partitions and layout modificationsIn its original form, the entire floor predominantly consisted of open space, along with three meeting rooms and a large conference hall. The new interior installation is designed at the client's request as six closed offices, five meeting rooms, and a smaller open space.
One of the most striking architectural interventions is the opening of the entrance area and the relocation of the reception to the hall, which smoothly connects to the open space. The atypically designed reception booth in yellow integrates into the predominantly concrete interior while simultaneously drawing visitors into a space that gradually offers more and more colors.
These colors appear on panels in red, green, orange, or yellow in the newly created offices and meeting rooms around the façade, which now accommodate a total of eighty people. Custom-designed wooden, glazed, or acoustic vertical panels create partitions, some of which also serve as storage spaces. Among other prominently colorful elements is the main kitchenette, designed entirely in red, and furniture carefully selected by Dutch designers.
Technical spaces hidden in the "egg"Monochromatic yolk yellow is used not only in the office partitions but also in phone booths and other interiors of the technical facilities, colloquially referred to as the egg. Its rounded egg-like shape inspired the architects in their choice of colors – the exterior features shell white, while the interior showcases the aforementioned yellow. In addition to two small phone rooms, the "egg" also houses a server room, original restrooms, two smaller meeting rooms, a nook for copiers, and space for a small kitchenette.
Studio acht developed the conceptual design of interior designer and architect Bart Vos, with whom they collaborated on the proposal, further addressing the technical aspects of the project and providing complete author supervision throughout the duration of the modifications.
