Churchill I.

The building is located along Italská Street in close proximity to W. Churchill Square, which its mass helps to complete and enclose.
The administrative building Churchill I is structured in a way that creates new open public spaces with garden architecture, conceptually addressing the sloping terrain and providing a space for relaxation despite the proximity of busy traffic. The building is designed with varying heights and floor plans to avoid creating too uniform and bulky a barrier. Its massing responds to the slope’s running line and seamlessly connects to the already existing development. The facade of the building dynamically alternates its rhythm, and with playful compositional elements, it either accentuates the mass of the house or, conversely, lightens and dissolves it in places. The simplicity and modesty of the facade detail are balanced by the generosity and unusual approach to the facade and mass composition as a whole. The sharply cut lines of the building are contrasted with flowing curves at the ground level. These curves intermittently penetrate the mass of the building and then emerge from it, creating alcoves that separate the activity on Italská Street from quieter living areas. The ground floor of the building features a canteen, restaurant, and café. Between the Churchill I building and the adjoining Churchill II building, a small living square is created with greenery, a water feature, and a beautiful view of the Prague panorama.
