Investors turned to our 0.5 Studio based on a proposal for model cottages. These were designed in 2020 in collaboration with Chytrý dům s.r.o. The brief for this realization was to use the same concept on the floor plan of a cottage that had already served its purpose and to utilize the existing stone foundation measuring 7 × 5 m.
The original design was modified into a design with an area of 2 × 30 m² per floor. The rational shape of the two-storey cube is ideal for family recreation with a beautiful view of the mature garden.
When designing smaller houses, it is not important how many m² of space are involved, but how the space is defined and utilized. The proposal is characterized by contrasts and dialogues. On one hand, between the garden and the house, and on the other hand, between the exterior and the interior. At times, the cottage forms a distinct cube, while at other times, thanks to the black facade, it blends seamlessly with nature. The cladding made of charred wood changes the surface of the house depending on the angle of the incoming light, and its texture can evoke the bark of the trees in the surrounding area where the house stands.
The cottage is entered through sliding doors from the terrace. The ground floor is conceived as a shared space for cooking, dining, and relaxation. There is also a bathroom with a shower and technical facilities under the stairs to the upper floor. The striking kitchen unit is adjoined by a stove that serves not only for cooking but can also fill the space with the soothing crackle of fire on cooler days. The dominant feature of the ground floor is the large glazed windows, which, when pushed aside, connect the interior with the terrace. In the summer, it becomes part of the living space and maximally connects the house with nature. The upper floor is primarily used for sleeping and storing personal belongings. Through a strip window, it offers a view of the landscape.
Spruce paneling is used throughout the interior, creating the atmosphere that belongs to cottage life. Every detail of the workmanship was carefully considered. Black technical elements crafted in a locksmith's style emerge from the wooden interior. The play with the grid and segmentation on the ceiling of the ground floor pleasantly shapes the space. Finally, it is essential to mention that the design and realization were created in close collaboration between the architect and the construction company. Chytrý dům s.r.o., which also processed the structural project. This approach to designing timber structures has been applied for a long time. Thanks to fine-tuning the project already in the study phase, the design can be successfully brought to completion, including the details in the interior that ultimately define the quality of the building and the pleasant use of the house.
