An apartment in a beautiful pre-war apartment building with modernist elements remained unscathed even by the government of the working class. With a slightly shabby yet enduring nobility, the stone-clad entrance portal has been preserved, along with elegant brass fittings for hardware and staircase railings, signs, bells, peepholes, inlays on the doors to individual apartments, and perfectly crafted terrazzo in the common areas.
The clients bought an apartment that witnessed Adina Mandlová and Hugo Haas. And many other fates. They desired earthy yet gentle tones and materials, simple and elegant solutions. The entrance area with storage spaces flows seamlessly into a simple yet fully equipped kitchen with access to a balcony (17.2 m² + 1.7 m²), a utility room for a washing machine, cleaning, and seasonal storage (5.7 m²), a dining room as the heart of the entire apartment (23.4 m²) seamlessly connecting to the living area with a large window (25.8 m²), a bathroom with a bathtub, shower, sink, and toilet, which receives daylight through a skylight (9.8 m²), and two separate bedrooms with storage spaces and room for work and relaxation (22 m² + 17.4 m²)
The original damaged floors were replaced with solid oak and large-format tiles (entrance, kitchen, utility room, bathroom); a very favorable ceiling height was utilized with drywall to embed almost all lighting; cast-iron radiators were used, and the windows, despite all efforts, could not be refurbished, but precise replicas with better insulating properties were made. The owners wished to have space for only a few (but all the more important) items that belong to their lives. Books, personal memories, paintings (author Karel Demel); everything to which they have a strong emotional attachment. They hoped to find joy, peace, and tranquility in their new home.
