Apartment Karlovy Vary

The apartment is located in Karlovy Vary, near the colonnade, with a view of a slope full of greenery, in a historic building with several preserved elements from the time when apartments were generous and charming.

The main goal was to remove layers of various constructions, claddings, ceilings, spatial changes, clean the passages, and restore their original dimensions. Thanks to the maximum trust and mutual respect with the investor, we could afford to drill numerous openings, eliminate doors, and conversely, add glass skylights. We eliminated walk-through rooms and proposed a more contemporary layout with two separate bedrooms and a connected living core.

In the living rooms, we focused on illuminating the layout and the openness of the space. The kitchen was placed in a newly created niche between the kitchen and the living room, both rooms connected by a serving window, which was often seen in such generous apartments. In the bedrooms, we preserved the original wooden floors and merely refurbished them. The bathroom features a generous shower area of irregular shape, a sink, and a toilet.

A minimum of materials and a unifying design run throughout the entire space and support the calm atmosphere of the apartment. A recurring element is the exposed original painting on the ceilings and walls, this uncovering creates structural, striking, and subtly tinted artworks in each room.

The apartment is finally furnished with minimalist furniture from the design studio Janský & Dunděra and the company Todus.
