Biography
Václav Roštlapil was a Czech historicist architect who designed a number of public buildings primarily in Prague for scientific, educational, and medical purposes. He received his basic education in Kostelec nad Orlicí, where his father Josef and mother Františka (née Seykorová) were from. After studying at the Prague Polytechnic (1874–79), he continued his studies in Vienna from 1881–84. Since the early 1890s, he lived in Prague, where he completed projects such as the building of the Academy of Fine Arts, Straka Academy, and the Institute for the Insane in Bohnice. He also completed several commissions in his native Kostelec. In 1927, he was awarded an honorary title of Doctor of Technical Sciences by the Czech Technical University in Prague.
