Biography
Stanislaus von Moos is a Swiss historian and theorist of architecture. After a year of studying architecture, he switched to studying art history at the University of Zurich and concurrently wrote articles for newspapers and curated exhibitions. His first teaching positions were at Harvard University, in Bern, and New York. He obtained a professorship in art history at the Technical University of Delft. In 1971, he co-founded the professional journal Archithese with Hans Reinhardt. In 1983, he joined the newly established Institute of Modern and Contemporary Art at the University of Zurich, where he remained until his retirement in 2005. In 1997, he was a visiting professor at Princeton University. In 1998, he received the Schelling Award for architectural theory. Subsequently, he worked at universities in Mendrisio, Yale (2010-14), and Lausanne (2016). He has published works on Le Corbusier, Robert Venturi, and Louis Kahn.
His uncle was the painter Max von Moos, his wife is the sculptor Irene von Moos, and his daughter is the architect Charlotte von Moos.
