Biography
Piero Bottoni was an Italian architect, urban planner, and educator. In 1926, he graduated from the School of Architecture at the Milan Polytechnical Institute. He was among the protagonists of Italian Rationalism, was a founding member of the Milan group Miar, and participated in exhibitions of rationalist architecture in Rome in 1928 and 1931. In 1933, he was Italy's delegate to CIAM, where he contributed to the development of the Athens Charter. He took part in many key architectural and urban planning competitions of the 1930s and vigorously sought new solutions in the field of furniture design. In 1945, he was appointed special commissioner for the 8th Triennale; he promoted studies for the construction of the experimental QT8 district on the western edge of Milan. He also served as the editor-in-chief of the magazine Metron. In 1946, he was one of the founders of the Movement for Architectural Studies. From 1953, he was a member of the board of the National Urban Institute. In the last decades of his career, he dedicated himself to educational activities, which had been made impossible for him during the fascist era.
