Paul Preissner earned a master's degree in architecture from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has exhibited at the biennales in Buenos Aires and Rotterdam. In 2015 and 2017, he participated in the architectural biennale in Chicago. In 2021, he was a co-curator of the USA pavilion at the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale. He runs his own studio in Oak Park in American Illinois and serves as a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
