BB Centrum is a significant location in Prague, concentrating a number of office, commercial, gastronomic, and sports-relaxation facilities. In the spring of 2007, a new building E was opened, which serves as offices for the management of ČEZ. Shortly after the initiation of project work, ZUMTOBEL Lighting s.r.o. was approached by the author of the interior design from HEYWORTH STUDIO ARCHITECTS s.r.o. with a request to develop a design for the artificial lighting of the building.
In addition to the generally applicable requirements of standards and regulations for achieving quality artificial lighting, it was necessary to respect specific architectural considerations in the design. The lighting proposal also needed to take into account the layout of the workplaces, largely conceived as open-plan offices with relatively low ceiling heights. The operator placed great emphasis on the possibility of individual adjustment of lighting intensity at the workplace and achieving energy savings.
For lighting, ZUMTOBEL and DELTA LIGHT luminaires were selected, which meet the highest quality and aesthetic standards.

Entrance areas, atrium, gastro operation
For the design of the lighting in the entrance area, atrium, and cafeteria, the main guideline was the architect's effort for an interesting solution and the use of unconventional methods. For example, backlighting all the edges of the stone wall cladding using an embedded DELTA LIGHT aluminum profile with integrated LED strip lights creates a subjective impression that the entire massive stone wall is suspended in space.
In the ceiling of the entrance hall, recessed, several meters long, very narrow ZUMTOBEL luminaires labeled SLOTLIGHT were used. This solution brings a certain order to the ceiling design, despite many other distracting elements located in the view of the ceiling.

In the cafeteria area, a combination of direct lighting (DELTALIGHT and SLOTLIGHT) and indirect lighting in the form of backlighting of the lowered ceiling beams was used.

Meeting rooms
To allow suitable lighting intensity adjustment, the ZUMTOBEL and DELTA LIGHT fluorescent luminaires are equipped with dimmable ballasts. A simple version of the Luxmate control system then provides the user with an opportunity to easily adjust the lighting according to their own needs. The "preset" function ensures a return to the most frequently used lighting intensity with the push of a button.

Open-plan offices
The task was to ensure all lighting-technical parameters according to the requirements of standards and regulations while allowing space variability and a certain individuality of lighting. For this purpose, the KAREA floor lamp from ZUMTOBEL, equipped with four 55 W fluorescent tubes providing both direct and indirect light, was selected.
As it was requested to centrally control a large part of the office from the entrance door to the sector, a control method that also satisfies the requirement for economic operation had to be found. A lamp with a controllable ballast was chosen as a suitable solution, where the intensity change is made by a button on the lamp, allowing the user to set their desired lighting themselves.
This open-plan office solution also produced exceptionally favorable results in the final measurement of intensity and uniformity.

Offices of senior management
The best results in the field of office lighting are achieved by a suitable combination of direct and indirect light and a large luminous area of the luminaires without the risk of glare.
The absolute pinnacle in this case is the ZUMTOBEL fluorescent luminaires labeled AERO. They are microwave technology based on light guide. The light-emitting surface is a panel with a perfectly uniform distribution of light flow without losses.
The luminaires are suspended approximately 50 cm below the ceiling and create perfectly uniform, diffused, and unobtrusive lighting. When this lighting system concept is used, the significance of furniture arrangement in the room according to newly arisen user needs is significantly reduced.
Some rooms were additionally equipped with KAREA floor lamps, as a suitable complement to the conference seating in larger offices.

The entire lighting design of building E was indeed subjected to the requirements of the client and the designer of the interior architectural solution, but on the other hand, ZUMTOBEL was not afraid to apply professional considerations where appropriate. The result is a compact, aesthetic, and interesting solution, where the required technical parameters of lighting are a matter of course.
