The company KOMA MODULAR CONSTRUCTION has developed a low-energy module for modular buildings. It combined the advantages of modular constructions, such as speed of construction and lower acquisition costs compared to comparable standard construction by 30%, and especially the possibility of dismantling and reassembling at a new location, with the benefits of low-energy buildings, i.e., an annual heat demand for heating of less than 50 kWh per m². The company utilized the excellent properties of FERMACEL fiber cement boards for both the interior surfaces and floor constructions. FERMACEL boards show high strength, and after multiple relocations of the modules, not a single crack appeared, which is common with drywall boards.
KOMA MODULAR CONSTRUCTION exhibited the low-energy module at this year’s Bratislava International Construction Fair CONECO 2010 and at the International Construction Fair IBF 2010 in Brno. The low-energy module attracted significant interest from both professionals and the general public. The younger generation particularly appreciated the design and lower acquisition costs, while maintaining a high standard of execution. The low-energy modules also appealed to developers with their lower acquisition costs, technical construction properties, and design, who valued the possibility of multi-story low-energy apartment buildings that can be built from these modules quickly and at a lower cost and can be inhabited immediately after construction due to the absence of wet processes. And all this in a low-energy design. Representatives of municipalities were also surprised by the wide range of potential uses for low-energy modular buildings, especially for kindergartens, schools, nursing homes, athlete accommodations, and other community buildings. Entrepreneurs appreciated the wide variability and adaptation to individual needs and, of course, the lower acquisition costs. An investor - entrepreneur also saves costs due to the speed of construction, as they can utilize the building for business earlier and recover their invested funds more quickly.
The low-energy module was awarded the highest prize given for innovations at the CONECO fair, the Golden Plaque, and the KOMA MODULAR CONSTRUCTION exhibition stand, which presented an example of a studio apartment in one M3 module, also received the Golden Leonardo award for its inventive design. At the fair in Brno, the low-energy module was awarded an Honorable Mention in the competition for the Golden Medal.
