The RSJ investment group has announced a limited architectural competition for 5 participants for a new building at the corner of Lannova and Revoluční streets in Prague. The landowner wants to restore the original quality and function of this prominent location after decades. The future building at Revoluční 30 is expected to create a tandem of quality and contemporary architecture alongside the now iconic Dancing House in the historic center of Prague.
For several decades, projects for the rare location on the right bank of the Vltava River have been prepared, which sooner or later ended up in a dead end. The entrance to the central part of the city was devalued by the demolition of the neo-Gothic Eliška's baths in 1940, when an apartment building with an exposed gable wall unintentionally took its place in the visible corner position. A new building will replace it, restoring the missing natural facade to the street. The competition aims to find a thoughtful solution that fits into the city panorama while also bringing something new and unique to Prague.
One of the main reasons for announcing the architectural competition for a new design is the inclusion of key stakeholders in the entire process. The jury will consist of expert representatives from the capital city as well as the Prague 1 district. The RSJ investment group plans to consult the proposals and tasks with other experts and with representatives of the neighbors throughout the competition. The chair of the jury has been invited to be Dutch architect Winy Maas from the MVDRV studio, who is a visiting professor at the Faculty of Architecture at ČVUT. Other jury members include architecture promoter Adam Gebrian and Ondřej Císler, author of the conceptual study Hradební korso for IPR Prague. "We chose the path of a limited private architectural competition, from which the best design for the corner at Revoluční Street should emerge," comments Jakub Mikulášek, asset manager of the RSJ investment group, adding that the last proposal prepared by architect Eva Jiřičná and her team AI Design for the current owner since 2014 could ultimately not be realized.
