At the end of June 2023, forty architects and interior designers gathered at the MONOBRAND concept store in Karlín to consider, together with representatives of Hager (the manufacturer of Berker switches), the question of what aesthetic demands a switch must meet and what role a switch should play in the interior. In the stylish environment of the MONOBRAND showroom, architects were introduced to the more than one hundred-year history of Berker switches and showcased the current design series in the initial part of the workshop. However, the main part of the workshop, during which the architects and designers could truly unleash their imagination, involved the possibility of creating their ideal switch.
Thanks to the one.platform system, on which all square series are built, Berker switches offer an almost infinite range of options and combinations of frames and central covers. Changing the appearance of the switch is a matter of simply snapping on the frame to the rest of the switch. Do you feel like trying a different combination? No problem; transformation takes just a few seconds.

Ivana Jakoubková, marketing manager of Hager in the Czech Republic, states about the benefit of the workshop in her further work: "It was interesting to observe the architects creating a color combination of switches as a memento that they could take home. I was surprised that many chose our leather Berker R.1 switch with either a black or white cover. There was also significant interest in the custom-made Hager Manufaktura series R.classic – the rocker version in matte black. On the other hand, I wasn’t surprised by the interest in the anthracite variations in the Q.3 or Q.1 series, which I personally also like very much. And a perennial favorite is the popularity of our round series of Berker Serie 1930 switches in both bakelite and true porcelain Rosenthal." Her words are confirmed by Jiří Košina, product manager at Hager: "The most interesting thing was that the architects confirmed for us the emerging trend of matte black instead of the usual glossy black variant, not only in switches but also in other design devices and home accessories." The standard series of Berker switches, thanks to the modular concept of one.platform, offers a truly wide selection of combinations. A handy helper for selecting your switch is the Berker Configurator. And for those who still do not choose any of the color and material combinations from the standard offer of Berker switches, the custom production program Hager Manufaktura will provide a solution, revealing that there are practically endless variations.

Katrin Grund, the founder and owner of the design shop MONOBRAND, which hosted the workshop in her showroom, adds about the event: "There was a creative and sharing atmosphere among the participants of the workshop; for me, it is always like watching a concert – a symphony of ideas, stimulating dialogues, and creative thoughts. I admire the architects' ability to think 'outside the box'; collaborating with them is always enriching for me." Thomas Grund, managing director of the Hager branch in the Czech Republic, also reflected on the long-term collaboration between Hager and architects: "Although the Hager Group has its own research design team, for every larger project, such as the development of a new design series of switches, we always invite architects, designers, and other creative professionals for ad hoc collaboration. It is a joy to see what synergistic effects and unconventional results emerge from this merging of creative minds. I am convinced that also for this reason, our Berker switches are the most beautiful in the world," concludes Thomas Grund with a smile.
