The famous Stalinist and former rector of the Brno University of Technology, chairman of the normalization union of architects, Prof. Ing. Arch. Vladimír Meduna, Dr. HC., candidate of the ÚV KSČ, must be writhing in joy in his grave, since the repulsive imperialists will finally realize his intention to demolish the department store 02, máj, which he wanted to remove as a representation of imported capitalist architecture right after its completion in the most terrifying times of normalization in 1974. The building, designed by architects M. Masák, J. Eisler, and M. Rajniš from 1970-74, was the first conscious reference to the architecture of interwar functionalism and thus ideologically and expressively unacceptable in the era of modern communist darkness on Národní třída. It seems that his views align with the heads of Tesco and the preservationists, who have no problem with its demolition, as the head of Prague's municipal preservationists has expressed: "I don't hold onto this building at all, but we certainly won't give approval for its demolition without seeing a specific project of what will be built here." So that is good news, as it is hard to find a more terrifying postmodern "expert" on contemporary architecture. And the fact that ordinary people will not mourn for him (according to Z. Lukeš) should serve as a horrifying warning. We all see what so-called ordinary people are building around our cities! We call for the architectural community! Halt Tesco, refrain from your barbaric intention! In the interest of the culture of this country, in the interest of the architectural quality of the architecture that was created in a time of poor quality!!!!
