Prof. Karl-Heinz Schmitz (*1949 - Bad Godesberg) grew up in Cape Town in the Republic of South Africa and studied architecture in Cape Town and Karlsruhe. He collaborated in the Haus-Rucker-Co studio in Düsseldorf, in the studio O. M. Ungers at the state library in Karlsruhe and with Karl-Josef Schattner in Eichstätt. Since 1993, he has been a professor at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, where he has built, among other things, a student dormitory, his own house, and the Anna Amalia library.
