At the end of January 2021, thanks to the collaboration with colleagues from the Association of Polish Architects SARP Katowice, we have the opportunity to facilitate a meeting with internationally recognized German architect Jürgen Mayer H., who has created his own distinctive language over his 25 years of professional activity. He has always been fascinated by the intersection of architecture, communication design, and new technologies. In his process of creating space, he places great importance not only on large urban projects but also on small installations or interiors, the use of interactive media, and energy-saving materials. Currently, his studio's activities focus on interdisciplinary research into the relationship between space, the human body, and technology. Jürgen Mayer H.’s most famous realization is the Metropol Parasol, an original structure located in the historic center of Seville. This remarkable hybrid formation not only serves as a canopy for the square but is also an archaeological museum, a market, and an observation platform. The wooden umbrellas soaring above Plaza de la Encarnación have become a splendid landmark of the city and one of the icons of contemporary architecture. Among the projects Jürgen Mayer H. is currently working on are, among others, the residential tower RKM 740 in the center of Düsseldorf, the multifunctional building complex ELEMENTS near the Spree in Berlin, and the innovative RAW campus at the historic station in Potsdam.
On January 28, 2021, at 4:00 PM, we will have an exceptional opportunity to hear Mayer's narration not only about the origin of these realizations but also about all his previous works. Given the continuing restrictions, the meeting will take place online, but a large part of it will be in the form of a dialogue, allowing anyone involved to ask a question directly to Jürgen, and the authors of the most interesting questions will be rewarded with books by Jürgen Mayer H. bearing his personal signature. The event will take place as part of the project Masters of Architecture, which is now celebrating its 15th anniversary and with which the Architecture Cabinet has long collaborated.
