MOVIE NIGHTS WITH ARCHITECTURE V.
18:00 David Chipperfield (USA, 2011, directed by Michael Blackwood, 59 min) The documentary presents the British architect, a Knight of the Order of the British Empire, a member of RIBA and the Royal Academy, Sir David Alan Chipperfield. One of the most significant contemporary architects in the world, he was born in London in 1953, and currently has offices in London, Berlin, Milan, and representation in Shanghai. The film captures the architect over drawings, sketches, and working models of the retrospective exhibition celebrating 25 years of David Chipperfield Architects titled "Form Matters," which took place in 2010 in Pisa, Italy.
19:15 First Earth: Uncompromising Ecological Architecture First Earth: Uncompromising Ecological Architecture (USA, 2009, directed by David Sheen, 90 min) A gripping and evocative documentary about an alternative way of building. The film is not a manual, but rather an answer to the question of why, in the current context of urban expansion, it might make sense to build houses from clay. "First Earth" advocates the legitimacy and appropriateness of building clay houses in any cultural and socio-economic context - from the Arab desert to the urban jungles of America.
21:00 Rem Koolhaas: A Kind Of Architect (USA, 2008, directed by Markus Heidingsfelder, Arthouse Films 97 min) A visually inventive and provocative portrait of the architect, of whom Rem Koolhaas himself stated: "It is the only film about me that I like." Few architects have caused as much sensation outside the architectural "community." His Dutch Embassy in Berlin, the concert hall Casa da Musica in Porto, and the Guggenheim Museum in Las Vegas are functioning examples of this Dutch architect's visionary theories. His work transcends architecture; Koolhaas is also known as a writer, filmmaker, and social commentator. The film is a captivating portrait of a visionary that grips our hearts with his ideas, showcasing the wide creative range of the architect and his ability to communicate through various media. Through interviews with other architects and friends of Rem Koolhaas, the film assembles an engaging view of the architect in the creative process and formulates his significance and contribution to the field - Koolhaas created a body of work based on his theories that elevated architecture to a new level.
