On Monday, April 23, 2018, at 7:00 PM, a lecture by Ondřej Beneš and Petr Kratochvíl on the topic of Phenomenology in Architecture Yesterday and Today will take place at the VI PER gallery.
For a certain period in the second half of the 20th century, it seemed that phenomenology in architecture would become a dominant theme (the peak period of Christian Norberg-Schulze); however, in the end, this did not happen. Similarly, in the Czech context, although with some delay, it seemed for a while that Genius loci was the most important book. There are still many books and authors in the world and here, drawing from the legacy of Husserl, Heidegger, and others, but today perhaps only Juhani Pallasmaa openly identifies with phenomenology. Therefore, in the discussion, we want to provocatively ask where phenomenology in architecture has gone. The discussion will focus on the transformations of phenomenological interest in the Czech architectural environment and its current form, thus considering what this philosophical direction can contribute to architects today.

Thematic architectural discussions. Two participants and one current topic. A proven format of academic debate, presenting viewpoints, discussion, audience questions. The aim of the cycle is to open important and pressing topics, allowing the presentation of positions from various, often opposing, sides, confronting diverse views with insights from experts, responsible officials, politicians, and simultaneously enabling interested laypersons and professionals to learn the positions of the participating parties and ask them questions. Each discussion is connected by one overarching theme.
