On Thursday, December 5, 2013, French architect Anne Lacaton from the Parisian studio Lacaton & Vassal gave a lecture titled 'The Pleasure of Space' at the Světozor cinema in Prague.
Anne Lacaton spoke about dwelling. For her, it is more than just a functional space. It is an expression of satisfaction, nobility, and freedom that arises from the use of space. It teaches us to think about what is around us and ahead of us. Architecture means the construction of a large number of situations that interconnect and intersect. Designing space based on the idea of dwelling means shaping it from within, not from the outside as a superficial and isolated act. Anne Lacaton from the French atelier Lacaton et Vassal showed how to view the city from the smallest scale and create generous and comfortable living spaces. Careful observation of the context, utilizing advantages, and transforming what already exists provides an opportunity to do more and better.
Lacaton et Vassal is an architectural studio founded by architects Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal in 1987 in Bordeaux, currently operating in Paris. The studio has received numerous awards, including the national Grand Prix for young and emerging architects (1999). Among their significant projects are the School of Architecture in Nantes (2009) – a construction with a lightweight steel structure that creates ingeniously usable space. Maison Latapie (1993), Maison Dordogne (1997), and Maison Courtras (2000) showcase low-cost family house projects with an unconventional appearance, featuring a recurring motif of garden greenhouses. The interior of Café Una in Vienna (2001, Architektur Zentrum Wien) is also quite interesting.
At the same time, we warmly invite you to the next cycle of lectures that we are preparing for next year titled "Swiss Inspiration." The cycle begins in March 2014, and we look forward to seeing you.
