ZLÍN - The Zlín City Hall has released a guide to architecturally interesting buildings in the city. The brochure includes photographs, addresses, and descriptions of 36 buildings, family houses, and villas; it also features a map showing all the buildings. This was announced to journalists today by Deputy Mayor Karel Dvorský.

The brochure titled "In the Footsteps of Zlín Architecture" showcases the most famous villas - the villa of Tomáš Baťa, Jan Antonín Baťa, or the villas of Baťa's directors Hugo Vavrečka and Dominik Čipera, as well as typical Baťa brick houses.
“We created the new publication based on the requests of tourists coming to the city. They were attracted by the famous Zlín architecture and often asked about the individual villas and houses,” said Dvorský.
The publication was released in a print run of 3000 copies and is available at the city information and tourist center for 20 crowns. City representatives will unveil it in January at the travel trade fair in Brno.
Entire neighborhoods of typical Baťa houses were built in Zlín primarily in the 1930s to accommodate the workforce of the rapidly developing Baťa factories. There are several basic types of houses, most of which are two-story with flat roofs. A characteristic feature is the brick facades.
Zlín architecture is also promoted by the Zlín Region, which organizes tours of its headquarters, the recently reconstructed Baťa skyscraper, the former main building of the shoemaking company. Visitors can check out, for example, the exhibition on the second floor featuring the unique Baťa elevator, which served as a mobile office, or relax on the observation terrace with a café. Expert commentary is provided by staff from the nearby shoemaking museum.
