Židlochovice - In Židlochovice in the Brno region, representatives of the municipal council today opened the park in front of the castle, which was created for ten million crowns. It is meant to serve as a place for relaxation, said mayor Jan Vitula (TOP 09) to ČTK. Covering an area of about 3600 m², it not only offers benches and resting spots among the trees but also a pétanque court and water in the moat along the castle wall. People can swim there. A meadow for picnics will also be created, and in time the municipality will add grilling spots.

Part of the ceremonial opening included a display of period costumes and swimwear, demonstrations of pétanque, performances by the Šarivari Swing Band, and also art workshops for children. "Originally, the city intended to sell the space for the construction of apartment buildings. However, with our arrival at the town hall, we took a different approach and started working on the park," stated Vitula.

According to him, there used to be only old dilapidated sheds in the area. "Now we have planted about 30 trees, a new lawn has been sown, which will serve as a meadow for picnics. There is space for pétanque, and you can sit on the benches. There's also a water element, which we do not restrict at all, so kids can swim there," Vitula said.

The original water fortress was rebuilt into a Renaissance castle by Fridrich of Žerotín in the second half of the 16th century. At the beginning of the 18th century, it was transformed into a Baroque style by Count Filip Ludvík Václav of Sinzendorf. In the first half of the 19th century, the Židlochovice castle underwent Empire modifications to its current form.
