Kopidlo (Plzeň Region) - In a twenty-hectare super-secret area in Kopidlo near Plas, where military specialists modernized Russian medium-range missiles just 17 years ago, a hotel is expected to be built, which the region desperately lacks. This idea is being promoted by the municipality, and it is also supported by the microregion of Dolní Střela, which includes 21 municipalities with 8,500 residents, including the larger town of Plasy with 2,600 people.

"A larger guesthouse for two buses of tourists, which is not available in Plasy or Kralovice, is what we would like to build with European funds, which could cover up to one hundred percent of the costs in the tens of millions of crowns," said Mayor Jiří Poděbradský to ČTK. The annual income of the thirty-headed village in the "forgotten region" of northern Plzeň is 950,000 Kč.
Citizens will decide on the use of the area at a council meeting in a month. The second option is a sports center with an ice rink and a swimming pool. The location, 35 kilometers from Plzeň, is attractive due to its historical sites, mainly the Plasy Monastery, the nature of Rabštejn, and a number of bike paths.
"A hotel facility would definitely benefit the region,” confirmed Jan Naxera from the Regional Development Agency (RRA), which, in cooperation with CzechInvest, has mapped unused industrial and abandoned military facilities in the region. According to him, it will definitely be possible to obtain European funds for the project, but it is necessary to establish priorities for the Dolní Střela microregion.
According to Poděbradský, the microregion would apply for grants. "We have no objections to the plan, but the initiative must come from the municipality,” said its chairman Miloslav Hurt. According to him, the RRA has classified the facility, located 500 meters from the main artery of Plzeň-Žatec, as one of the promising sites.
The municipality acquired the buildings in the area last June and leased them to a Plzeň entrepreneur, who promised to build a panel factory there and employ 20 people. The municipality offered him the sale of the area in return. From this money, they planned to buy household water treatment plants for residents. "But from five large halls, only iron and cast iron worth three-quarters of a million crowns has disappeared. The forests lost 240 trees, and it is being investigated by the police," said the mayor.
The municipality is negotiating the transfer of ten hectares of non-forested land with Military Forests and Estates. "We will assist in unifying the land," said Hurt.
The village has been striving for the Hadačka area, which is its only property, for three years. The towns of Plasy and Kralovice did not want the buildings. According to them, they are financially opaque and have ecological burdens.
Until last year, Hadačka was the subject of speculation among locals and drivers. They believed that there was still a secret base there. Plasy and its surroundings were a strategic location for the army in the previous regime. Under the convent and gardens of the monastery, there is a large bunker of the civil defense command center, and in Drahoňov, a backup command center of the army with four underground floors.
