Přerov - The fate of the abandoned nine-story Strojař hotel near the center of Přerov remains open. Councillors rejected the purchase offer of 40 million crowns from the Ministry of Defence and Finance during today's meeting. However, the city has kept a previous resolution in reserve that considers a potential purchase in the future. The fate of the building has been a long-term concern for the city. It fears that it could become another social accommodation facility. The city council has attempted to acquire the property free of charge, but the ministries recently rejected this. The councillors find the amount too high, and the city would have to agree to restrictive conditions. The proposal from the councillors not to purchase Strojař at this price was supported by 27 representatives. "We received an offer from the ministries to buy it for 40 million crowns. The Ministry of Defence insists on using Strojař for public interest - if we buy it through a transfer at the previously agreed price of 40 million, our use of Strojař will be restricted," said Deputy Mayor Pavel Košutek (ANO). The redemption of Strojař for up to 40 million crowns was approved by the council last September. The new city leadership then came up with the idea that they had managed to negotiate a free transfer. However, the condition was non-commercial use of the property for ten years. The city leadership then went to Prague with a proposal to convert the accommodation into social housing, or suggested demolishing it. Neither option was agreed upon by the representatives of the ministries. "If we buy the property at auction, then there will be no restrictive conditions, there will be no public interest. We can sell or rent the property; we will simply not be restricted," Košutek said. The army has been offering Strojař for sale since January of last year, yet no one has shown interest so far. Initially, the asking price was 62 million, then 55 million crowns, and the latest offer was 46.5 million. Ministry of Defence spokesman Vladimír Lukovský recently told ČTK that the ministry is currently not considering the sale of the Strojař hotel through a tender. The ministry was waiting to see how the councillors would respond to the sale. The Strojař accommodation was vacated by soldiers at the end of 2013. The building has 369 beds in 144 rooms and is accompanied by land covering an area of 5142 m².
