PhDr. Lubomír Zaorálek, electoral district of Ostrava
Prague – The Ministry of Culture is unable to provide hundreds of millions of crowns for the construction of a new regional West Bohemian Gallery in Pilsen. Minister of Culture Lubomír Zaorálek stated this during today's parliamentary interpellations. The Pilsen Region, as the founder of the gallery, announced last spring that it would only proceed with the project if it receives a grant of 480 million from the state budget.
"At this moment, I am not able to negotiate such amounts because it is beyond our capabilities," Zaorálek said in response to a question from MP Barbora Kořanová of ANO. According to him, the 930 million project is included in the National Investment Plan, and the ministry is preparing a program for co-financing regional cultural infrastructure in conjunction with this plan.
There are many requests, according to Zaorálek, and the Ministry of Finance set a condition for the program limiting state co-financing of projects to ten percent. The Ministry of Culture wishes to negotiate to increase the co-participation to one-fifth. "As for the construction of the gallery, given the possibilities I currently have, it is evident that funding for such an initiative must be pooled from the city, the region, and the state," Zaorálek pointed out. He added that discussions should take place about how to pool the funds.
