Pardubice – The demolition of the main building of the former distillery in Pardubice started today. It will take two days. The developer plans to build a commercial zone in the area by 2022. Naďa Medunová from Restone Real Estate told ČTK.

The demolition of the site began in June and is expected to last until around mid-September. The demolition company has already torn down the factory owner's villa, the employee dormitory, annexes around the main building, and partially the vinegar plant.

Today, a 56-ton excavator with a 27-meter arm arrived to demolish the main multi-story building. The structure, located by the main road, is being dismantled from the top down, with debris being dropped inside.

"By mid-September, the site will be completely demolished, and then we will recycle materials, debris, wood, metal, and cardboard," said Robin Brabec, the demolition work supervisor.

On the site of the former distillery, a commercial zone will be established with shops, administrative buildings, and a hotel, offering healthcare and relaxation services. The developer plans to start construction work in 2021. "We want to apply for a zoning decision by the end of the year," Medunová said.

The center of the newly created service block will be a hotel with a conference center and a plaza with greenery. About a thousand parking spaces will be available in underground garages. According to Medunová, the demand for new services in Pardubice still exists. "We are already in intensive communication with potential tenants for shops and similar businesses," Medunová said.

The developer, Restone Real Estate, also owns the adjacent bus station. It will close at the end of 2020. It will serve as the access road to the new commercial zone. Around 2024, the developer aims to complete the construction of about three apartment buildings with more luxurious apartments, Medunová said. The cancellation of the bus station means that the city needs to find a temporary replacement until it builds Terminal B next to the train station.
