Pardubice - The construction of the new airport terminal in Pardubice will be delayed for some time. Construction companies offered higher prices than the airport expected. Work was originally supposed to start in the fall. Michal Červinka, director of East Bohemian Airport (EBA), said this today to CTK.
"The bids received did not meet the maximum price of 305 million crowns. We will have to announce a new tender and set new conditions," Červinka said.
The conditions of the tender were about a year old, and according to Červinka, the situation in the construction market has changed, so companies were unable to guarantee the set price for the work carried out. The director hopes that construction could begin in the spring.
"We have to respect the law on public contracts, so having any clear expectations is like crystal ball reading,” Červinka noted.
The airport plans to take out a loan of 250 million crowns for the new terminal. The construction of the terminal has been considered for a long time because the check-in hall is already insufficient for the number of passengers and lacks the appropriate services.
The airport is mainly used by Russian clientele, who, however, are flying to Pardubice less this year. This is likely influenced by the lower value of the ruble, which is related to the political situation in Russia and Ukraine.
During the first three quarters of the year, the airport processed about 20,000 fewer passengers than in the same period last year. Approximately 160,000 passengers passed through the terminal. Last year, a record 185,000 passengers used the airport's services.
The EBA is one-third owned by the Pardubice Region and two-thirds by the city of Pardubice. The shareholders have committed to pay for the road by the terminal. The communication must be completed with the new hall. The estimated cost is 50 million crowns, but the tender process may reduce this.
