Vyškov - Vyškov will rehabilitate the Sokolský dům cinema in three stages, with improvements such as a fixed auditorium and an enlarged projection area. The total investment is estimated at about 12 million CZK, said the city hall spokesperson Michal Kočí to ČTK.

Most of the interior and equipment of the cinema dates back to the first renovation in 1993. Over the years, the equipment, the auditorium, and its acoustics have aged and no longer meet modern requirements for cinemas in many respects, according to the city hall. The first stage of renovations is planned for this year, including the replacement of the control unit in the boiler room, as well as expansion tanks, pumps, and individual valves in the heating distribution.

"For the air conditioning, we plan to replace the control unit processor and subsequently adjust it. The second stage will follow next year, and the final stage will take place in the year after next. For movie lovers, the most tangible and attractive stage will be the middle one next year when we will undertake a complete renovation of the large hall," stated Vyškov's deputy mayor Josef Kachlík (Choice for the City) in a press release.

The second stage will be the most technically, financially, and logistically challenging. The hall will receive a new auditorium, fixed, with 256 seats. According to the spokesperson, the current auditorium is often criticized by visitors for its appearance. It is also at the end of its lifespan due to constant assembly and disassembly, as the hall is used not only for film screenings but also for other social events.

"We also plan to enhance the space with acoustic elements so that it enables full-fledged projection of spatial multichannel sound. Currently, it is significantly muted compared to modern cinemas. The hall will also be made more attractive with LED lighting, which will allow for energy savings. Acquiring a larger projection area will ensure better reflectivity and image quality. The new screen will also require the replacement of all existing masking curtains, and old stage curtains will also be renewed," stated Luboš Kadlec, the director of the Vyškov Municipal Cultural Center, which manages the cinema.

The final stage will also include a new elevator. "We must consider financial aspects and the feasibility of each stage within the operational possibilities of the cinema. However, the cinema will gradually become more competitive with multiplexes in Brno or Olomouc," said Vyškov's mayor Karel Jurka (ODS).
