Brno – The Ministry for Regional Development (MMR) wants to be clear by spring about which of the 700 municipalities will retain their building offices. It is expected that 323 will be in operation. The relevant regulation is set to be issued in the summer of 2022. Minister Klára Dostálová (for ANO) spoke about this today at the conference of the Association of Local Governments of the Czech Republic in Brno. The new building law shifts building offices under the state. The chairman of the Association of Local Governments of the Czech Republic, Stanislav Polčák, stated that during discussions with the ministry, the association will strive, among other things, to increase the number of building offices. They fear that the decrease in the number of offices will worsen their accessibility for the public.
"Building offices will be retained in municipalities that meet certain legal criteria, such as an administrative district with more than 10,000 inhabitants. We want to negotiate the final shape of the network of building offices with the Association of Local Governments of the Czech Republic and the Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic," stated Dostálová.
"The current proposal represents a reduction of more than half of the current state, which will lead to a deterioration in the availability of this service for citizens," announced Polčák.
The new building law was confirmed by the Chamber of Deputies on July 13, when it overruled the Senate veto. Two days later, President Miloš Zeman signed the norm. The new amendment to building law is intended to speed up construction proceedings and ensure compliance with established deadlines, according to the government. The law shifts building offices under the state and anticipates the establishment of the Supreme Building Office. Under it, individual building offices will be organized similarly to the current structure of the financial administration. The law has many opponents who argue that state administration will become distanced from citizens and that building proceedings will become more complicated.
